Saka and Martinelli seal a signature triumph for Arsenal and Arteta in Madrid

Real Madrid 1 Arsenal 2 (Arsenal win 5-1 on agg)

The win, sealed by Gabriel M...

Familiar Atlético heartache as Real book Arsenal date after bizarre Alvarez penalty decision

Atlético Madrid 1 Real Madrid 0 (2-2 on agg; Real win 4-2 on pens)
Real Madrid beat local rivals Atlético Madrid 4-2 on penalties to progress to the quarter-finals of the 24/25 Champions League, lining up a clash with North London side Arsenal. If the agony was all-too familiar for Diego Simeone's side, who have now exited this competition at the hands of their cross-town nemeses for the fifth time in 11 years, the nature of it was new. A penalty shoot-out which bordered on the absurd an...

A chance for a spot in the quarter-finals of the Europa League is still all to play for in Manchester next week following Real Sociedad’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United. In a match that ultimately proved devoid of chances and quality, Joshua Zirkzee put the visitors ahead before Mikel Oyzarzabal fired home from the spot to give Real Sociedad a fighting chance at Old Trafford next Thursday. The early moments of the contest saw th...

David at the double: Five things we learned from Atletico Madrid 1-3 Lille

Despite enjoying a stellar season in front of goal in Ligue 1, with seven goal involvements in as many games (5G 2A), Canadian star Jonathan David was not named in the starting eleven versus Atlético. After 65 minutes the Canadian was called upon, and he certainly delivered. Just ten minutes later the Canadian stepped up to the spot to fire the visitors into the lead with a well-taken penalty before bundling the ball into the net following an Atlético defensive mixup for his second in the final...

Five big talking points as England beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in Euros warm-up

England beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 at St James Park thanks to goals from Cole Palmer, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harry Kane.

It was the Three Lions’ penultimate game before the European Championships start later this month, with Gareth Southgate’s taking on Iceland at Wembley on Friday before heading out to Germany.

Here are five of the big talking points from England’s victory…

The rise of Chelsea star Cole Palmer has been nothing short of exceptional this season. To say he burst onto t

Newcastle end Arsenal's unbeaten start in fiery and controversial clash

Anthony Gordon scored a controversial second half winner to revive Newcastle United’s title hopes and inflict a first defeat of the season on Mikel Arteta’s Premier League pretenders.

Gordon's 64th minute strike survived multiple VAR checks in a match otherwise devoid of chances and incident apart from off the ball actions which largely went unpunished from a consistently inconsistent referee.

This fixture has been crucial to the aspirations of both sides in recent seasons so this can be seen

“People don’t realise the mental toll": Dele Alli, mental health in football and what more can be done

Alli, who won his last cap for England in 2019, fell out of favour at Tottenham after a drop-off in form, and has since played for Everton and Besiktas, struggling to make an impact for either side. Alli was widely regarded as England’s best and brightest young talent as he excelled under Mauricio Pochettino’s management at Tottenham, but his form began to dramatically drop off during Jose Mourinho’s time at the North London club. Such a drop-off was inexplicable to experts, pundits and fans ali...
